The south was also very affluent prior to the war in the old south with cities, railroads, plantations and their pre-war societies. It reminds me of the war we fought for autonomy from England and English rule. There are two main items I see when comparing the old south with the new south are the southern states’ desire for autonomy from the northern states and the federal government. the north proved to have a zero tolerance level to the south after the war which in hindsight might not have been the best way to expedite the healing that the country as a whole needed. true growth is painful but after the civil the workforce that the middle and even high class white manufactures that they could have feel back on was killed in the war in the first place. as can be seen in history is the south still had large obstacles to overcome with Jim crow laws and production in economy overall the obstacles where overcame but not in the timely manner Abraham Lincoln would have deemed adequate.

due to his assassination the country was not given the opportunity to heal in the timely manner in which his plans would have not introduced the 2/3 vote to come back to the union which was proven to be difficult seeing as even still after defeat the south was not as forthcoming to admit defeat. now not to say these laws of not having slaves were not a good way to go towards the future it was just not carried out in the way Abraham Lincoln had not planned. the new amendments brought forth with a wave of oppression on the south in the fact that now all middle class white business had a new way of conducting business with out true oversight or guidance on how to truly follow through with the new laws that prohibited them from the way of life in witch they grew accustomed to. The new south was a way in witch the union could now use its gain in power and dominance to punish the opposition which was the south.
